Frequently-anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

Title: SDETrims.DBO.Hydro_MajRivers
Abstract:
This is a 1:2,000,000 coverage of streams for the conterminous United States. streams
Supplemental_Information:
Procedures_Used: The stream layer was extracted from the 1:2,000,000 Digital Line Graph files. Originally, each state was stored as a separate coverage. In this version, the individual state coverages all have been appended. Revisions: Rev. 1.0 Original DLG conversion, state-by-state. Process_Date c1986 Rev. 2.0 Converted to the Data General workstation. All states joined into a single coverage. Process_Date 01/02/92 Reviews_Applied_to_Data: Rev. 1.0 has seen extensive use in a variety of studies.

  6. How does the data set represent geographic features?

    1. How are geographic features stored in the data set?

This is a Vector data set. It contains the following vector data types (SDTS terminology):

      • GT-polygon composed of chains (637)

    2. What coordinate system is used to represent geographic features?

Horizontal positions are specified in geographic coordinates, that is, latitude and longitude. Latitudes are given to the nearest 0.000000. Longitudes are given to the nearest 0.000000. Latitude and longitude values are specified in Decimal degrees.

The horizontal datum used is Unknown.
The ellipsoid used is Clarke 1866.
